Philippine Duck Ducks

The Philippine Duck has a greyish-brown plumage, a black crown, nape, and eye stripe, rusty-cinnamon head and neck, brown eyes, bluish-grey beak with black tip, a bright green speculum, white underwing, and greyish brown legs and feet. Both sexes are alike. The Philippine Duck is a large dabbling duck endemic to the Philippine Islands. It is listed as 'Vulnerable' as the population has declined due to extensive hunting and habitat loss.

Size

Typical Adult is 48-58cm (19-23in).

Food

Fish, shrimp, molluscs, crustaceans, insects, and aquatic vegetation.

Habitat/Range

Freshwater and saltwater wetlands including streams, lakes, marshes, swamps, mangroves, and coastal water. It is endemic to the Philippines and can be found on all the larger islands.

Breeding

Between March and November.

Eggs

8 to 10, pale green colour.
